Keynote Title: Power Electronics as the Enabler for Transportation Electrification
Abstract: This presentation will consider power electronics as the enabler for transportation electrification and the technological advances required to make all these systems a reality. The talk will draw on comparisons across a range of transportation electrification platforms, including cars/motorbikes, trucks, aircraft, trains and ships. The technological, investment and societal developments which are going to be needed to make these visions possible will be explored and some current developments described as case studies. These developments and technology challenges will include the electrical drivetrain design and the applications of motor design and power converter topology choices as well as the impact of emerging technology advances including cooling techniques, integration, cryogenics, system optimisation and the use of wide-bandgap semiconductors. The future challenges for us as Power Electronics experts will also be considered.
